Welcome to StateMaps.net

Need educational materials for teaching state geography to elementary school children, middle school students or high school scholars? Want a fun activity for kids’ camp or senior citizen centers?

State Map features:

  • Simple but not simplistic; they contain a bold boundary for the subject state in each map, yet also display outlines for bordering states so students can see where cities and counties are in relation to neighboring states.

  • Bodies of water, such as oceans, gulfs and Great Lakes are blue in color to show where states have shoreline.
  • Ready-made fill-in-the-blanks allow students to write in population and land-area statistics, providing a convenient way to make the maps into a test, quiz or homework assignment. Or even a game or group activity for kids of all ages and adults as well!
  • These maps have been made so that all text is legible when printed on 8.5″x11″ (letter-size) paper or transparency film.

  • Map elements remain in exactly the same place for a given state, so multiple maps can be viewed as PDFs on a computer screen, and teachers can switch back and forth between them to conceal or reveal different layers (e.g., cities, counties and labels) without changing the rest of the map. This mimics what you might see in a high-tech GIS (Geographic Information System), yet in a simple and easy-to-use PDF (Portable Document Format).

Make the Maps come Alive

This short video illustrates how the maps can be viewed dynamically on a computer display. They can be shown in a similar way using transparencies and an overhead projector. Or they can be printed on 8.5″x11″ paper and used as handouts.
