Sync This iPhone: iCloud Photos

Stop future library synchronization on one device without confusing it with an account-wide deletion workflow.

Reviewed 2026-10-31 · 4,500 app labels in the database

At a glance

  • Where: Settings → your name → iCloud → Photos → Sync this Device
  • Changes: Synchronization between this device and iCloud Photos
  • Limits: Existing copies and deliberate photo-sharing destinations need separate review. Account-wide removal has different consequences.

Steps

  1. Identify where the originals are stored and download the copies you need. Check available device storage.
  2. Open the Photos synchronization setting for the device you want to disconnect.
  3. Read the keep/download/remove prompts carefully and choose the behavior you intend. Do not select account-wide deletion for a device-only change.

Check the result

After the change, use an ordinary new photo to check which devices receive it. Keep a verified copy of important originals while you reconcile the results.
